    Default Elite vs SRI MPG

    Hi all,

Question re mpgs on Elite & SRI.

    We've got a 06 Vectra SRI and a 56 Vectra Elite. Both 1.9CDTI 150's

The SRI's done 17k and returns 43mpg ish. The Elite has done 7k and only gives back 33mpg ish over the same type of road & driving etc.

Is there a reason for this????

I've searched back through the forum and the only reference to this I can find was someone listing the differences between an Elite and an SRI and saying the SRI gave much better mpg figures.... (but not why??)

    Can anyone help me out....

    Thanks
    Richard

In my experience matey the CDTi's don't really produce excellent mpg figures until after 20k miles. The do take an age to loosen up properly.

Obviously the Elite will very very slightly heavier, but not by much I don't think.

They're both running with 17" alloys aren't they? Also are both computers set to UK Gallons and not US Gallons?

Engine isn't broken in yet, simple as that, people have reported Mpg getting better after about 15k HTH.

Also the Elite will have Climate Control so, unless you've turned it off in the menu system, the Air Con will always be running, and that will knock off a few mpg. Not 10mpg obviously, but still a good few mpg.

I've run four 1.9 CDTi 150 Vectra SRi's from brand new to around 10,000 miles in the last couple of years. My 5th and current one has done 4,500 miles and easily acheives 43MPGs.

To be honest, each of the cars have acheived low 40MPGs after just a couple of fill ups.

As AJA suggested, I'd check the fuel computer to make sure you havent got the Elite set to US units, as Gallons are different over there.

    Arrrrr......

I did forget to mention the SRI is on 17" alloys and the Elite on 18"........ Also the Climate Control on the Elite is on Eco (AC off).

Would this make 10mpg difference though?

Also - how do you check/change the computer from US units?

    Thanks again

Is it an Elite Auto? My mate has got a Vectra SRI Manual CDTI 150 registered in the same week as mine from the same dealer etc and he gets 6-700 miles out of a tank of diesel and I only ever get around 500 and I don't drive madly and keep the compressor of the CC off.

    Elites manual.

Judging from the above 10mpg difference is not normal - do you think I should be going to the dealer.

If I do would anything they look at be covered under the warranty?

IMHO the mileage difference is down to the Elite engine not being broken in yet. You could go to the dealers, but I think they will tell you the same, your talking 15-20k before the engine is loosened up and then it will return better mpg.
