Default Whining Noise from 2.0L Turbo Engine?

I have a 2.0L Vectra SRI Edition 100 which has the 2.0 L Turbo Saab power unit fitted.

It has developed a whining noise since only covering 3,000 mile, 19,800 miles later its still doing it, dispite serval visited to vx

On my last visit VX have change the Tensioner Pully and Aux belt, and now I think it has got even louder

This happen ONLY! when the engine's cold and lasts for about 5 miles then just disapears??

VX are now just as confussed as me, as I was convinced it was this pully bearing? So unless there are a batch of duff bearings in VX's stock I don't know what to do next?

    Anyone else had this problem?

I tried to post this under VX common problems but it wouldn'd let me

    Welcome for any help

    Paul

Whining noise from a Petrol Car? That'll be the drive going on about the cost of fuel. LMAO

Sorry mate couldn't resist it. If Vx can't find it then I would try another dealer. Failing that you need to contact Vx customer Services and ask for a field engineer to come and have a look.

Hi Paul, we've spoken about this (and I've heard your audio file!) but I'm at a loss as to what it could be.

My first thought was that it was the Multi-V tensioner as I had a sort of twittering noise when the engine was started from cold (lasted just a few minutes) along with a bit of a judder under load (almost like an exhaust mount was loose). Both problems were caused by a faulty Multi-V tensioner. They replaced this and it's been fine since.

Possibly a thrust bearing? Or is it definitely coming more from the engine than clutch/transmission?

Sorry I can't think of anything else. This must be driving you absolutely nuts as it's been going on for ages!

BTW - this will answer your question about posting in the Vx Common Problems section. I also moved your thread into this section, more relevant and more likely to be found by people browsing for similar problems.

Duncan, Thanks for that, yes its going on for ages like you said but now its starting to get slight louder since the changed this tensoner? Could they have put on another faulty part? The dealer definately told me that this noise went with the belt removed and started up?

Could it be something like the beaning on the crackshaft next to the Multi V belt pully, and when the belt is on and under tension it whines but doesn't when the tension is removed? and when the engine oil is warm it quitens down? Just a thought.

Paul.. you'll be please to know that mine has just started making the same noise!!! I think its a tensioner or something similar on the belt... mine is definitely belt related noise!!

Gonna be taking it to Bicknells next week on my days off to see what they think.

    An update

I rang the dealer to find out what's happening, I since found out that the dealer had changed the tensioner but as it made no difference they have put the old one back on, but not told me

As when I looked under the bonet at the weekend, I noticed that it still looked dirty and the same, so when I questioned the dealer today, I said "Did you change this tensioner with a secondhand one?" No mate he replied, as the new one made no difference we put back your orginal one

But they didn't tell me that at the time I collected my car back, they just said, "Try that and see how you get on?" No Bl**dy wonder its no better, in actual fact I think its got louder.

Now all the field engineer from VX is going to do is listen to a few simular cars

I bet now he comes back with.... "oh they ALL do that sir" To which I shall go mad as it didn't do it from new???

    So I await his finding?

    Cheers Dazza

I'd be interested in your outcome?

The dealer keeps trying to tell me its something to do with the V belt
but I'm not convinced, it sounds more like a bearing noise to me, but I wait to hear more from them when the VX field service man has done his rounds? I just hope he dosn't come back with "They all do that sir, its the characteristics for that engine" I shall go mad

Paul, if it's any consellation mine has just started to do this again. It 'twitters' when first started in the morning (if it's cold/damp) which lasts only a couple of minutes. It's also a bit 'whiny' as well along with a bit of an audible judder under load - all the symptoms that I had before and which were fixed by a new Multi-V tensioner and belt. So it looks like it's needing replaced again!

I've got a few bits and pieces I want them to look at so will book it in in the New Year as I don't have time now.
