    Default Hello

    Hi people

I've been a member on VVOC and MVOC (username Graham) for ages as I used to have a V6 SRi, I then got a nissan 200sx s14, after a while swapped that for Vectra ST200 #11 ruined myself financially by fixing the st200 all the time and then swapped that for a 200sx s14a (took the swap as I hadn't had any interest from cash buyers).

Now I've decided I want to sell (or swap) the S14a and get a Vectra C, as I have decided I want to go for low running costs, high mpg and spaciousness instead of power/sporty

My s14a I value at around £4,250 and want to get a Vectra C for that or less. I'd love to get a 1.9CDTi but I presume thats just wishful thinking on my budget?
I have 1 person interested in swapping (not sure if hes a member on here? Appy, on vvoc) for a 1.8 16v Club saloon, 52 plate, 54k miles.
I've looked on auto trader and they seem to go for between 3k to 4k for same age/mileage. Does that seem about right? When is the cambelt change on vec c's?

Any recommendations on what would be best for me? I tend to do just a little bit of mileage around town a few times a week, but occasionally go for a long blast on the motorway to car shows/friends who live far away etc. I don't use the car to get to work as I use the train for that (work in central london )
So I feel I'd be best going for either a 1.8 or a diesel.
I've heard the 1.9CDTi is a better engine than the 2.0/2.2DTi?

Cheers in advance for your advice

    Hi mate.

Well I have a 1800 VVTi which does me....
I would say the biggest prob with the VVTi & the previous 1.8 is other than the airbox mod and a K&N filter there is very little you can do to them to increase performance. Economy on mine, I average around mid 30's.
If its economy, power and performance you want then it has to be a 1.9 CDTi 150, which is very tunable!
No doubt you will inundated with people on here who have the CDTi.
    They outnumber us petrol types!

thinking of moving to the old diesel now eh ????

you can't go wrong with any of the one's in a vectra / signum, as far as i know they all have there own little quirk's......................

mine is a 120 cdti sxi and it has been a great car so far, had it's problem's but all dealt with under warranty, so can't realy complain, oh and with a tuning box - K&N filter and air box mod it's also good for around 170 bhp

    also I was wondering...
diesel is now 5 or 6p a litre more expensive, so does it actually work out cheaper in the end?

    Welcome mate, enjoy the site.

You have to do more than 12K miles a year I guess to warrant buying a diesel for that reason alone. A 150 cdti will give you about mid 40's mpg, but the power is very surprising for a 1.9

If you want it for the drive, I'd test them all to see which you prefer.

I'd say the max I do per year is around 10k because although I do some long journeys its offset against how often I actually use the car.
