Angry Ran out of fuel in my first week !

Had my 150 CDTI for a week now and lovin it although it was a bit worrying when I had ran out of fuel even though the guage was half way into the red

I though it odd that the fuel light started flashing and didn't appear first of all as a solid light. Looking at the manual now, I assume I should of had a fuel light and then it should start flashing. I would say that I drive 30 miles on a flashing light but wasn't too concerned as the guage was nowhere near empty.

I was in fact just going to the diesel station when it ran out

Does this sound right to you? Should I have got a solid light for a while? Does the light come on for more than 30 miles? Does your guage go lower than halfway between top of red and empty?

As far as I know once it starts to flash you have about 30 miles left, (but then I haven't read the instructions) also depending on the OBC you have you should get a warning on the main screen which will flash at a 30 range.

Normally the only thing that will give false readings is having a tuning box fitted,

    No tuning box yet !

I only have an exclusiv model so no OBC I'm afraid. Just a good old fashion guage (well, maybe not good). Should I get a solid fuel light for a while before it starts to flash?

Yes, you should get the solid light first, when the gauge hits red (approx 35 miles). Then it'll start flashing at you when you 'really' need to fill up.

I'll have to see what happens this time around then. I'm sure I didn't get a solid light. I though it strange when it was flashing at me. Might be worth having a full geri-can handy as well.

I personally won't let mine go anywhere near the red and usually fill up when it hits 1/4, although it's below a quarter now as i just couldn't be @rsed yesterday filling up, having just done a 500 + miles round trip to France, i didn't bother going out !

I get edgy if it says I've got 70miles range.

    Default fuel warning light

When i bought mine the sales guy told me that when the light starts flashing it could run out of fuel 'anytime' and that this happened to them on a regular basis when taking new cars to be fueled.I have the basic Exclusive and have had the solid light on once but the guage was showing nearly empty

Thats the unfair thing about the CDTi's, unlike most diesels i've heard of where you get about 60miles and that is when the needle has practically bent itself round the Empty pin, the Vectra only gives you 30 miles and the gauge has not even made its way through the red zone.
