    Default Tailgate locking/shutting problem

Has only started doing this recently. Shut the boot, get in car to drive off and the boot open warning display is on. Get out and slam boot but still it's on, sometimes re-shutting the boot will put the warning light out and other times not. Bit of a rattle from tailgate over bumps as well sometimes.

Is this a common problem and is it an easy fix? If not suppose it's off to the dealers!

Given that it's rattling as well, I'd say it's likely to be the striker plate, where the boot lock locks onto, needs adjusting. You'll see a couple of Torx screws on it that you can loosen it with, and it has little markings on the edge to let you see what position the plate is in. Set it all centred up, then start to make little adjustments forwards and backwards from there. You'll know when you get it right as if you go to far in one direction it'll lock, but not cancel the boot open light, and to far the other way it just won't close.

    Thanks for the advice.

I've had a look at it using a torch (not ideal) and the boot side has a plastic scuttle cover hiding most of the plate as does the catch on the hatchback end.

Assume you mean the boot end? How do you remove the plastic scuttle thingy?

Also, when I open the tailgate, if you're a bit casual when pressing the button, the electric motor has a bit of a whirring fit. Is this normal or perhaps an additional clue?

Is there some sort of sensor there (that activates the warning light) that may be playing up?

I've forgotten exactly what the Vectra is like, but I think there are a couple of screws on the inside edge and it just unclips.

    That's normal.

Yes, there is a sensor (switch) that is depressed when the boot is closed, to turn off the warning light. It could be faulty/need cleaning but it could also be due to the striker plate needing adjusted to then be able to depress the switch fully - so you need to have a twiddle to rule out which one it is.

couldn't see any screws on the plastic scuttle. Any idea where abouts to look?

Soz, realise that you have a Signum.

I'm not 100% sure m8. As you saw I've got a Signum so I can't recall how that bit comes off. I think it may just pull off. Hopefully a Vectra owner can confirm.

Think you just need to give it a good tug at the bottom - if i remember it's just got strong clips holding it on .....

Tis under Network Q until Sept 2008. Maybe I should go to the dealer after all.

been to dealer on way home and they've taken a look. diagnosed as electric gubbins catch assy on tailgate side. they've ordered a new one for fitting next tue so hopefully that should be it. they have replaced other faulty ones before apparently.
