    Default Omega 2.5 V6 petrol

    Sorry, non-vectra question

Has anyone any experience on these engines. It is a 2000 X petrol auto. Its a colleagues car at work and has developed an odd situation.

The spark plug holes have filled with oil which is presumably the cam cover gaskets.

Only found the problem due to a non-start one morning. Does anyone know if engine oil is conductive, had different opinions about this and to whether the oil filled plugs were failing or something else is at fault.

No stored codes etc, so no more clues.

If anyone has come across this before it would be interesting on hearing about how you got along

    Cheers
    Mark

Yep, common problem on that engine, soak the oil up with some kitchen roll first, then whip the cam cover off, put on new cam cover gasket and seal it, replace with new plugs, easy and cheap job.

Thanks for the reply, it looks like both sides have the same issue and you could not even see the plug tops - so been leaking a while. Is there any advantage in buying dealer gaskets as opposed to aftermarket suppliers?

I would go with dealer parts, not dear and you know they will fit ok.

I seem to remember that the v6 engine has an oil cooler between the cylinder banks which is prone to leakage, so have a look at that, too.
I still miss my Omega when I drive on a bumpy road

Thanks Phil, yes you are right. Checked the cooler and it seems OK. Its a nice motor the Omega but this particular one is costing my mate a fortune to run. It seems to consume parts at an alarming rate - I think he will go with a Veccy next time around and probably a smaller capacity petrol.
Fortunately he is an experienced motor engineer and can do most stuff himself but just no experience on this particular engine.
    Thanks again
