K&N air filters....they really are worth it!!

Swapped over the Veccy's standard air filter for a K&N one. While the filter was out I removed the 'extra' plastic bit inside the air box.

Fired the car up and she runs so much more smoothly, this was evident even on just tick over. Took her out for a gentle drive and found that she responds to the throttle much better now, not jerky at all at slow speeds. Then was the real test.....took it out for a proper drive out along the countryside. OMG ... such a change in attitude from the engine. Quicker to throttle response and rev's much more freely now.

Just for around £45 you too can have a better performing and responding car!!!

Bought mine from YB Filters on eBay...cheapest I could fine and very good service.

for a 1.8 is it going to do alot smoothness wise?
Had one in a 2ltr Astra and along with derestricintg the air box i couldnt tell that much difference

I have a K&N on my vec and it does make a little difference and sounds awesome. Some cars they suit and others not.

also depends on the weather. if its very cold out side the air and fuel mix is colder which makes a big difference

I had a K+N in another car didn't notice any difference apart from more induction noise. Have a read of this, interesting that K+N state that there filters are within 99% of OEM filters, 1% is atill a lot of cr@p getting into the engine. If you also look at the flow tests the paper filters allow over 50% more air through than the engine requires, so is 75% gonna make a differnce? it can only take so much air in after all. For me the cost/performance ratio it simply isnt worth it. At this time of the year especially gritted salty roads I would rather my filter was more restrictive and better filtration anyway !

I would agree, I have used various different replacement performance panel filters and I have not noticed any difference in performance. The only change I have noticed is the amount of Noise!

The only time i have noticed a major difference is when using an induction kit. So in my opinion, they are a waste of money. As I say my opinion only

So if your gonna replace your air filter, would it be better to spend that little bit more and fit an induction kit with a decent cold air feed???

I would say yes, as the original airbox and air routing is not the best, remember is designed for noise reduction.

Anytime you can shorten the path for the air the better, as that way there is less restriction so free'er air movement

Its the same if you fit a huge intercooler, there is more air to move, so you get more lag.

Or do what a mate of mine did years ago to his old Pug 205.

Fitted an old heater motor with a cold air feed right in front of the air filter, wired up to a switch inside the car! DIY Supercharger!
