Default Sat Nav / Camera Detection - Europe

    Hi Guys,

Am travelling through France & Spain at Xmas & New Year. Whilst navigation is not an issue (I have the CD70 in my Siggy), the number of speed cameras (especially in France) is something I would like to address.

Does anyone have any recommendations of a good Speed Camera detector that works throughout Europe? If this would be combined with a stand alone Sat Nav system that would be OK as my wife could do with one for her motor anyhow.

I have been looking online and I know that there are plenty out there to proffess to be good but the best recommendation would come from you guys, the people who have experienced how good they are.

Pricewise I would be hoping to pay no more than a maximum of about £150.00 - am not a cheapskate but I know that, apart from this trip, it probably wouldn't be used much in the future.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Dave

Don't forget that speed camera detectors are illegal in france and you will be fined and possibly more for just having one in the car. Even if its unplugged and in the boot.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

If found with one in the car they can also not only confiscate the unit but also impound the car. Not worth it. Stick to the limit instead

Don't do it: it is illegal to have one and for instance in Belgium you'll loose the car even if the detector is not working, not sure for France but I think it is the same.
A database on GPS is no problem

Edit: "If you are driving to France, you should be aware that having a radar detector in your vehicle is illegal in France, whether in use or not. If caught, you are liable to a prison sentence, a fine, confiscation of the device and confiscation of the vehicle. You should therefore ensure radar detectors are removed from your vehicle before commencing any journey to France."

Thanks for all the advice guys - in the end I bought one of these:

    http://www.ciao.co.uk/Delphi_Grundig_NAV_100__6593518

Got it (new) from ebay. Seems to be a cracking piece of kit. Apart from having to use one of my spare SD cards to fit the EU, French, Spanish & UK roads on (the supplied one only had enough storage for UK roads) and having teething problems loading them all (my fault, I should have fully read the instructions before attempting) everything seems to be great.

After doing all this I was then pointed to http://www.gpsinform.com/ and now have the camera list as wanted originally.

Price (including delivery) was £125.00 - even better news is that my wifes company will pay for it (they can have it after our trip at Xmas).

P.S. So as not to be appearing to be breaking any laws in foreign countries, it won't be on display (i.e. on the windscreen) but will be discretely hidden. I will also have another SD card with just music on which can be swapped over in an instant, so I should be able to show its just being used as an MP3 player.
