    Smile Hard-Core ICE Hacking

    Hi Folks,

I'm new to the forums as I've just brought a 2007 Vectra C Elite 150.

So far so good with the car, but I'm a total geek and want to tweak the supplied ICE to work my way. It comes fitted with a CD70 Navi and colour LCD, so I'm thinking of a few possible projects...
... maybe add reversing camera ...
    ... or a car-computer...
... or find a way to tweak/replace the embedded firmware...

I'm a professional embedded systems engineer by trade who designs similar things, but in the Aerospace industry, so I know I can do it but I'm going to need technical data and/or hackable donor bits.

Does anyone know where I might get techie data or have a contact that might be able to supply it? My initial thoughts are:-
    a) What is the video transmission standard used for the LCD screen? How does the Climate Control "override" the screen to display it's settings, or is it all done via the CD70?
    b) What external interfaces are on the CD70? Is there CD changer control? Auxilary (stereo) audio in/out? CAN Bus?
    c) Is the CAN bus used for any of the ICE communications, like steering wheel controls?

That'll help me decide which direction to head in, if I get a project on the Go I'll be sure to keep you guys informed- I spot a few (dozen) enthusiasts that'll no doubt love to see some very cool stuff happening...

Assuming I find the time that is!

Meanwhile, if anyone has some disposable/dead/defunct bits and bobs I can play with, I'll be a most greatful recipient!

    Cheers,

    The Saint.

Cheers Glynn... this car is my first proper "keeper" of a car, with just 10k on the clock! Gonna make it nice and pers'nal like.

I've tried my local ICE stores, but they're next to useless and I haven't found anyone I can have a technical conversation with - they know about leads and adaptors in their magazines but that's it. Is there anyone else who is like-minded here? Into software programming and hardware hacking?

I used to be an ICE specialist for 10 years. Gave it up recently but never went as in depth as what you have in mind. If we were to ever devote the time to such a one of project it would of cost the earth.
I do however still have a can bus interface kicking around which gives out speed pulse, hand brake I believe, lights & ignition signals but most of these are either unimportant or can be found else where.

Welcome by the way & good luck in your project.

Ah actually come to think of it wasn't there a guy somewhere who got a pc running through the colour display? Think it was in an Astra.

No that was one similar. The one I recall was far more in depth and iirc required soldering the cables of a vga cable straight onto a circuit board.

Cheers for the replies fellas, that german fella is doing *exactly* the kinda thing I'm interested in - erm Ich nich sprechen deutch though...

VGA interface to the display will make it dead easy to do what I want to... I can't find anything on forum search though?

A can bus interface would be ideal - is that software for a laptop or hardware based or both?

I remember that one, but cannot find it

Found only this guy on you tube, he has a switch on the console to switch between CD30/DVD/PC
