    Default Vectra OR Signum

Been thinking about this for a little while but with petrol prices rising it has become more of a possibility.

Love the power and performance of the Zafira VXR but the cost of filling it is killing me, especially as its hard to not drive it hard.

Been thinking about the Vectra or Signum 1.9CDTi BUT then was thinking would I be happy with the decrease in power so was thinking about the 3.0 Diesel.

    Comments and Ideas appreciated

    Thanks

If you go for a signum 3.0 you can expect to 175bhp and about 200 with tuning box. If you go for the 1.9 you can expect 190 ish 195 tops with a caterman box. You will still see at least 45 mpg with the 1.9. I'm more than happy with mine

    Interesting one, 1.9 150 vs 3.0 V6.

Well when I drove a standard 1.9 150 it did feel slower than the 3.0, but not by that much. Considering you are getting another 5-10mpg in the 1.9, you can see why there are so many about.
I find the power delivery in the 1.9 very fustrating. You need to give its loads of revs when pulling sharpish out of junctions. There nothing below around 1800rpm. I can pull out of junctions in 2nd in mine with no problems. The 3.0 power delivery is more smoother (linear) then the 1.9. The 1.9's power comes in quite quick ... but then goes quite quick too.

The only tuned 1.9 I've been in is spoons's and that goes pretty well indeed (as we know by Steve's 1/4 mile figures etc ).
I think the earlier 3.0 Euro3 177PS pre-facelift's are easily tunable. I think there's many people with boxes and remaps and not many have had problems. However, if you get a facelift 3.0 Euro4 184PS like mine then tuning is not really an option, its not very sucessful. I've tried 2 boxes and given up due to issues and Maverick has tried to get a Torquing BHP remap and 888 remap fitted to his 3.0 184PS and had issues, so gave up.

The one last trump card a 1.9 has over a 3.0 is the handling. The 3.0 is a heavy lump so not as agile round the corners.

So I think the options are this:

1.9 Standard - not overly exciting but probably more reliable than boxed. Will easily do up to 50mpg I belive.
1.9 boxed/remapped - as quick (maybe quicker?) than a 3.0 but without the 3.0's heavy handling
3.0 standard - good performance as standard (as I've kept up with a fair few "faster" cars lol). will do 34-42mpg. V6 sounds fab.
    3.0 boxed/mapped - only for a pre facelift 177 Euro3. I think remaped prefaced 3.0's are stormers with 220bhp+

    Make your choice .....

    Hi DarrenLee,

Have you not considered another Zafira? The Cdti SRi XP or Elite look lovely motors in the right colour (and when fully loaded with all the goodies of course)

i just bought a 3.0 cdti v6 signum, and love it think the handling feels better than the vec c equivelant,i also think the main advantage the 3.0 has over the 1.9 is smoothness.
the 1.9 probably has more pro's to be honest, but then again it depends on how many miles you are doing and circumstance.
i don't do loads of miles every year so mpg isn't top priority.
good luck i'm sure you will make the right choice.

    Cheers matey, your welcome .
At the end of the day, you've got to try a couple of them, and see for yourself.
I'd thought I'd be happy with the 1.9, but its power delivery put me off (and I kept stalling it lol). The 3.0 did seem a bit quicker, but as I say, you cant chuck it round the corners as much..... pros and cons!!

This is weird, cos I'm thinking the opposite to you and fancy a Astra VXR! Its funny how we think " the grass is always greener...... " lol. Dont like the sound of a big fuel bill though
