    Default Speeding ticket

I mentioned some while back about a mate who was caught by a speed gun, he was well in excess of the 30 limit, well more than double actualy, that was six weeks ago, he still has not heard anything about it. I wonder if he has got away withit, is there a time limit for these "tickets".

It always used to be (AFAIK) 14 days for speed camera's and 90 days for notification if you're actually stopped (years ago a summons appeared at 87 days )

Isnt their something that says if its that serious then they wont be sent a NIP but will only hear when they are summons'd to court?

If he was more than double in a 30 limit, it won't be an NIP he'll be getting - it'll be a summons I'd expect!

NIPs, IIRC, have to be sent within 28 days of the offence - not sure about summons. Obviously MLC, Sonicboom et all will be able to confirm.

If its a camera, an NIP will have to be sent within 14 days of the offence, no matter what speed he was doing. The NIP will include a form called a S.172 notice, for the registered keeper of the vehicle to identify the driver.

If he was stopped at the roadside he will have ben 'reported' for the offence and could receive a summons at any time within 6 months.

He was stopped by the roadside, the police officer caught him going over the limit by using a speed gun, so it looks like he might have to sweat for a while longer yet.

I have to say I have little time for people who speed in a 30 or 40, and to be honest twice the limit in a 30 deserves a ban dosen't it?
