    Default Few problems

Found a couple of small problems now i've had a chance to get a good run in the car.

The heaters on the car take about 2 hours to clear the windows on settings 1-3. Setting 4 seems to be ok, but nothing compared to my old Direct. Setting 1 would clear them all in no time.

I have also noticed that the radio reception is quite rubbish on all stations, again which were perfect on the old Vec.

Any suggestions on how to fix these without going to a dealer??

Also, the exhaust is blowing a lot of white smoke, would one of the fuel cleaners fix this. I seen one in Halfords that reduces engine noise and exhaust smoke, improves cold starts fuel consumption.

I filled the tank earlier on and the Trip Computer shows 310 miles, is that about right? I was speaking to a guy with a 1.9 CDTi 120 who says he gets between 550 and 600 with a full tank.

    1. Get a new pollen filter, that should help clear the windows.

    2. Range ought to be at least 430 miles.

    3. White smoke? is it at all times or just when cold? It could be just in need of a bluddy good hard run up the hills!

The range could be low depending on how your driving, but thats with mine i'm not sure how yours would work out being a DTi.

    In short nooo.
But, don't always listen to the trip computer - press the mileage reset thing on the dash when you fill up to see how many miles you actually cover on a tank is the best way.

Where can i get a pollen filter, and how do you fit one?

As for the exhaust it's been quite cold here so i gather that's why it's as noticeable.

And i've noticed the trip computer doesn't know what it's doing. Sometimes it can be around 280 then go up to 310 then down to 300. It says 'range' before the number, does that mean how many miles you can do with the amount of fuel in the tank?

Pollen Filter, you can probably get one at a well known motor spares shop, if not, cheap as chips at a dealer!

There's a how 2 for changing on here somewhere.

    Wink

Diesels do take a lot longer to warm up due to the cast iron engine block. Mine takes ages. Sounds like your car could of got a bit of damp inside.

I have also noticed that the radio reception is quite rubbish on all stations, again which were perfect on the old Vec.

Mine are only any good on FM, they are quite good

Also, the exhaust is blowing a lot of white smoke, would one of the fuel cleaners fix this. I seen one in Halfords that reduces engine noise and exhaust smoke, improves cold starts fuel consumption.

They all do the same but white smoke is a sign of it having moisture in the exhaust. I'd put it down to being stood for a while before you bought it. When mines cold and I rev it to 2000rpm I can fill the works car park with white smoke!

I think you need to stop driving with your foot to the floor! diesels are slower off the mark but when your in 4th or 5th at 40mph just slowly accelerate and let the torque pull you along. Maybe you just need to adapt your driving style a little. It should see 500 miles to a tank.

As said, at the weekend go out for a long blast!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

its based on your instant economy, so the harder you drive the less miles you have left. Yes thats what the range means

    Default Fuel Range

I have driven various models and including my own 56 plate Design, the fuel range shows about 330 odd when filled up, then within a few minutes of driving on a dual carriageway at 70mph, or other road at a constant speed it climbs up to 440 or thereabouts and seems to operate normally after that.

seems like it needs to settle after being glugged up, however if i just put £20 in or so, it is accurate straight away, seems only when u fill it from the fumes or nearly empty
