    Default Graduate Endowment

Does anyone have to pay the graduate endowment on the 1/4/2008. I thought the law was passed that any student would no longer have to pay?

The SNP proposed it, but it has been scrapped until at least 2009
I can see there being a lot of angry student voters

I received a letter explaining that they will 'write to me to advise of the outcome of parliamentary process'. If all else fails I will take out a student loan and pay it back via national insurance/income tax at £15 a month.

It means I have to pay £2,092 for completing my course.

It is a pain in the backside, was introduced in Scotland in 2005.

I went to Uni just as there was the changeover from grants to loans
It was the best thing since sliced bread
I took out as many loans as possible and invested them
With an interest rate of less than 3% on the early ones it was possible to make about 8% interest each year

After leaving Uni I claimed deferment on payment for nearly 10 years and only started making the minimum repayments a few years ago
I only have to make 4 more repayments
The interest I was making each year was about £350, so I have made about £2500 out of the scheme, and don't even need to pay tax on it!
