    Default Vxr Gearknob..

    Hi,

Has anyone fitted a Vxr Gearknob to their vectra. I have looked in the part number section for a number ,but can't find one , also I have looked on the How 2 threads on how to fit.

Can anyone give me some idea on part number and cost, and are thay difficult to fit???

    Thanks,
    Roy.

I had one fitted to my car from new along with a VXR steering wheel by the dealers, But i've since changed it to an Irmscher 6 speed one because the stitching was a bit hard and was a bit irritating.. they changed the whole assembley and i was charged around £140 for it.. But as the new 2008MY car has the same leather gearknob they may have changed it so it just needs the gearknob to be replaced now.. The VXR Gearknob was ok but the stitching was harsh.. I find the Irmy one to be a bit better

So,how did you change the vxr one to irmscher, was it the whole assembly or just the knob?

The VXR steering wheel is lush - just can't find an airbag to fit it yet which is really starting to bug me...... Seen a few astra ones go on eBay but apparently they're slightly different inside and there's a danger of them going off....

I had an absolute mare fitting my VXR knob.

The standard knob on my 06 plate SRi was bonded on, unlike old Vauxhall's where they just twisted off. After about an hour and the use of a hacksaw, molegrips, snips, pliers and swearing, i finally got it off in about 8 pieces!!!

And then it wasn't just a case of just fitting the VXR one, oh no, things are just not that simple!! The reverse sleeve is much shorter on the VXR knob, (The plastic bit that stops you from selecting reverse), so ended up chopping about 3 inches of my actual gear stick.
It does look the dogs now and still needs a little bit more chopped off as it sometimes slides all the way over and into reverse without lifting the lever when going for first. I've worked out where first is but the wife hasn't yet and sometimes finds herself selecting reverse when looking for first when cruising up to junctions!!!!!! Not a nice noise.

Snowman, you got your ears on?

Wouldn't worry too much: I've tried pulling away in reverse from a couple of junctions too

A couple of taps from below with a hammer and bolster and the lot would have been off in one piece and in seconds! It is mentioned in the 'how to' page. I have done several cars this way now with no problem. I think we have all suffered by doing it your way until we learnt this easy way.

Regarding the VXR knob. You are really supposed to fit the entire gear shift which comes complete, also mentioned and pictured on the forum. This way you don't have to start hacking at your shaft
