    Default engine balancer weight???

Does anyone know if there is such a thing?Had car in dealers 8 weeks ago and paid(with a 40%discount for being loyal customers)£379 to have cam chains done. Not long after this the same vibrating problem was back.Took it back to the dealers and they say it is possibly the engine balancer weight, but another mechanic said these cars dont have one.Anyone help.

If you have a 2.2 then yes they have balancer shafts. They are chain driven and the chain can stretch and cause the chain to jump a tooth, which will then cause vibration. The shafts can actually be taken out for better performance but to the detriment of how smooth the lump is. If it has streached then you might want them to take a look at the cam chain as well, if that jumps/goes your talking a new head.

Yes thats exactly what they said it was when they fixed it last time the chain had jumped a tooth. If it is doing the same thing again is it down to them not fixing it properly the first time round.

Unless its the actual balancer shafts that are at fault. As they only fixed the chains the balancer shafts and bearing for them are still the original. You never know, it could be the duel mass flywheel. By the way, did they replace both chains or just the one that runs the cams, as the balancer shafts are run off a different chain.
It may be worth posting up on the forum that is just for our engine, Z22SE.co.uk. Look out for Benny and Vocky, they are both members on here also and there knowledge on the 2.2 is second to none.

Yes they changed both chains and tensioner.Dealers have had it today stripped it all down again and cant find whats wrong with it,probably going to charge me hundreds just to put it back together but they couldnt give me a price yet.Have registerd on the 22 website and see what comes. Its driving me mad, so close to christmas with 4 kids 2 cats and a dog to feed and even worse they have given me a 1.2 corsa as a courtesy car it just hasnt got any kahoonas!! It makes me wonder if the previous work needed doing if the problem is still there.Cheers anyhow mate.

This could be the dualmass flywheel thats shot. If you are unable to do this work yourself, they will charge you about a grand possibly more if they fit a new clutch.

I had a what seemed like a misfire problem for a few months and just could not work it out. It turned out to be a judder, vibration, imbalance from the engine.

I decided to go for it and replace the dualmass flywheel and that fixed the problem.

The break down inside and lose their tension, so just knock all the time.

How many miles has your car done, is it an early 2.2 z22se engine?

The car is a 52 2.2 elegance and has done 63000 miles. The flywheel was ruled out before we had the chains changed. Its just frustrating that vaux themselves cant find whats wrong with it if they cant find whats wrong weve no hope really looks like we will have to just drive it untill something more detectable shows just hope its not dangerous.

I took my car to Vaux to check the electrics were OK on the Tech 2 machine. They were fine and they had no idea what was wrong with my car, they wanted to start stripping the car down, major money.

They are not always as competent as they like to think they are!

So I took the gamble and replaced my flywheel and I used my old clutch as its fine.

Can you explain your symptoms as well as possible and how often it occurs, etc.

You have a z22se engine like me.

Thats what they have done to mine stripped it all down again, hubby told them to just put it back together when they said they would try different things that was yesterday afternoon not heard back yet....The car sort of feels like you are going over a rumble strip when you accelerate and has been like this for about 12 months had coil pack done secondary cam chains.Dont know if this is related but just recently when i go round a left hand bend if there is a bump or a drain i go over the back end flips out a bit like skidding on ice.Dont know if its my imagination but the vibration doesnt seem as bad when i have just washed it....That sounds really silly doesnt it.
