    confused Steering Problems

My steering has gone 'funny', it goes from normal to slightly stiff as i turn the wheel, it does this intermittently and at no set point in the steering range. It is rather annoying to say the least so does anyone have any idea's what could cause this??

I am going to check the steering fluid level tonight to double check this but for the life of me i dont have a clue whats causing it

First thing as you say is check the fluid level - bumper off job!! If it's down then you've probably got a leak.

Then I'd get under the car, you'll need to jack it up, and have a look at the steering rack for any leaking from it. If it's leaking, and you're feeling it in the steering like you are then it's a new rack!! It may see you okay for a while, but it could just go one day when you least want it to.

I've had this exact same thing with mine - MOT in May gave an advisory on it for weeping. More recently I saw that it was doing more than weeping. Once I fit my turbo back on again, I'll be getting a new rack for it. If yours is leaking, and given you are under warranty, I'd get it straight down to Vx to deal with.

If the rack isn't leaking then, as Glynn said, it could be the pump playing up.

Yup! Vx in their wisdom stuck the bottle in the corner right behind the bumper on the driver's side. I suppose they assumed it wasn't the sort of thing you'd need to check, or top up, regularly - which is true I suppose. Not sure about the facelift, but on the pre you can get away without undoing the rivets on the undertray bit and just remove the wheel arch screws and the two rivets near the headlights and pull it off so it rests on the ground - might be the same for yours?
