    Default Scanmaster ELM software

    Evening all,
does anyone use the Scanmaster ELM software for diagnostics for their vectra?
I got this last year for my astra and it worked ok. My vectra went into limp mode today then it cleared itself after stopping and restarting the engine. I thought I would plug in the laptop and see if it had stored any fault codes but it wont connect for some reason although it is the correct interface protocol.

    Regards

Does it definitely have the CanBus interface?

    Yes it should do CANBUS.
I will phone the supplier tomorrow to get some more info.

Just has a quick look at the manual. Supported protocols are, PWM, VPW,ISO and CAN so it should talk to the vectra.

Just checked with the supplier and he said that it is unlikely that the car would be OBD compliant and therefor the tool will not connect to it. A bit pi55ed at that I am.
Has anyone actually got one of these test interfaces from ebay or such like and got it to read engine and transmission data from a 52 plate 2.0DTi?

The car's compliant. The interface will probably be an ELM327 chipset (or a clone) and it is capable of communicating with the CANbus. The problem is that the software isn't capable of driving it properly

If you don't want a laptop interface, search on ebay for U581. That's works quite well for reading engine codes

I thought that the car would be compliant as well. My old V plate astra could talk to the Scanmaster. I am waiting to get some updates for the software, hopefully today or tomorrow, and I will try it again.

Just to continue this, I checked with Vauxhall and they have said that the car is CANBUS but cannot confirm if it is ODB2 compliant.
Can anyone confirm if they have any diagnostic readers that will work with a 52 plate 2.0 DTi?

Yep, the Uiftech U581 that I mentioned works fine. It will only read engine codes though.

If you want to read the other modules, look at vaux-com from http://www.ilexa.co.uk. It's not cheap, but it works.

    Shunter,
I have the Scanmaster from Ilexa and have spoken to them about the problems I'm having getting it to connect to the vectra but they said its not compliant so no luck there. I spoke to the lad at the sells the one you mention but he could not confirm that it would work on the car.
When you say that it will read engine codes does this include codes from transmission and fuel/exhaust or do you mean that it will read all codes apart from things like airbags/alarms keys and suchlike?

    Regards

    Ian
