    Default wiring for signum towbar

does anybody know about the wiring involved in connecting a towbar.
i was talking to a vauxhall dealership and they have told me there is a special wiring lume costing £40 and the car also has to be brought in to be reprogramed to allow for towbar electrics which would cost as well.do you think an auto spark could deal with this or would it have to go to vauxhall cheers.

Although I've just bought Matt's (Maverick) towbar for my Signum, as I haven't collected it yet I'm not as savvy with the wiring side of things. However my understanding of it is that if you want the most hassle-free solution you want the Vx wiring (the loom you'll be referring to). This goes from the towbar to the fusebox in the side panel and then you need a Tech 2 to tell the car that you have the trailer option installed. This then will have all the indicators, tail lights and brake lights working in conjunction with the car. The reason that the trailer option needs Tech 2's is that the signals to the towbar electrics will be CanBus from the car changing to 12V for the actual socket.

No probs. The other thing about using the Vx loom is that, I believe, it'll give you the bulb warning system on the trailer lights too.

Nope, I did hear that back in the early days of the Vec C when no one knew any better, the scotch lock method led to several thousand pounds worth of damage to cars when looms and modules had to be replaced.
Do the electrics properly, the Vx way, or you may be sorry.

Yep, it de-actives the rear parking sensors when reversing as well.

Ah yeah, of course! Oh well, that means when I tow, my non-factory sensors will be going mad when I reverse! lol Since I won't be towing much, and aim to be reversing as little as possible when I do! lol, it shouldn't be a big deal.
