    Default ENGINE POWER 1.9cdti

I roaded tested a Skoda Octavia 1.9pd(105bhp) yesterday and it appeared to be more powerful. The kerg weights are near identical; the max torque is at 1900 vs 2000.

Dare I say it? the Vectra felt like a tractor and sluggish(sorry Vectra fans) in comparison. Bearing in mind the poor mpg I get, could this be a factor in the power difference?

I have owned Vauxhalls for 25 years+ and although they have never been cutting edge, there has always been a year on year improvement down the ages. This one disapoints.

I've heard conflicting reports about the reliability. Vv certainly isn't best pleased with his motor, and can't wait to get back into a Vx. Read somewhere about the parts used being rejected from VW as they didn't meet their standards. So they sold them to Skoda. Also the customer service is very varied across the fleet, but then that is the same for most car companies.

I have spoke to Vv about his superb 2.0pd and I think his was a longer term thing, i.e. higher mileages. However, experiences from Taxi firms in our area paints a different picture.

The police use them as unmarked speed cars etc and they are very fussy and demanding of their cars.

I worked for company that supplied AUDI.VW/SCODA and I can assure you the quality standards are equal across the companies. Where they may differ is in the specifications. In terms of NVH(NOISE VIBRATION HARSHNESS) equipment the Audi got the best, VW got the next level down, etc

I did not really want to into great detail about the Scoda, just to highlight the concern with the Vx.

I stand corrected lol, I am sure they are superb cars and everything differs slightly compared to different driving techniques etc. I guess I pay more attention to the bad publicity than to the good stuff.

At our house we had until last week a 1.9 Cdti 150 Vectra, and the misses has a 140bhp 2.0 Octavia with the DSG gearbox. Her mpg is about 10-15 less than mine and to be honest apart from her lightning quick gear changes there is little difference in speed. The Signum is a little slower but it's new and is much heavier.

Isn't the DSG is a a semi automatic box? That might account for the difference in mpg?

Are you sure about the Signum weight? Looking at my hand book for the Vectra estate, the kerb weight fot the estate is 1600kg(auto 1613kg). The Signum can't be much heavier than the hatchback (1523kg)?

    Default ENGINE POWER 1.9cdti

I have had the results of the AA inspection and the engine is seriously unpowered, leaks oil in at least two places, needs a replacement starter motor, replacement air con compressor(just replaced) and has a very high bite point on the clutch pedal.

The lack engine power and clutch bite point seem to poitn to the cause of the problems I have had.

So it seems that your particular car has, unfortunately, a series of problems then (i.e. Friday afternoon special) as opposed to the whole Vectra 1.9 range being the issue.

Which VX 1.9 are you referring to? - the 120 or 150?

    Default ENGINE POWER 1.9cdti

It is the 150 bhp engine.

The engineer seems to think either the injector timing or the ecu mapping is at fault, although you could not be certain. Anyway, the poor mpg and engine judder could be the pointers. It does beg the question as to why the diagnostics have not picked the problems up?

Well it's obviously a specific problem(s) with your car. There's no way that a 1.9 150 is going to feel more sluggish than a 105bhp Octavia - unless there's a problem. It's unfortunate that Vx haven't got to the bottom of it - but you can't tar all the 1.9s with the same brush when it's just your car that has these specific problems.

Hope you get it sorted soon.
