When I started driving 3 years ago I spent my first year as a named driver on my parents car and it worked out an extra £20/month all be it the excess was £500 for me. Then insured myself o na 1400 mk3 astra with one years named driver NCB cost me £1000 and then after that with 1yrs driver's NCB was £500 then for my 2.0T vectra with 1yrs NCB i'm around £1100 which I think is a good deal.

It might be worth getting him to do a PASSPLus course, might cost him to do it but I think it will reduce his Insurance by more than the amount of the course.

I also would not insure 'his' car in your name and add him as a driver, this is classed as 'fronting' and at min would mean the insurance not paying out, either on 'his' car but more importantly gives the insurance company a reason not to pay out on your own car if you had an accident.

It is terrible the price of Insurance for youngsters, I've got it too come with 2 boys. Sometimes you can understand why the manufacturers like Citroen offer free insurance deals, its often cheaper to buy a new car with insurance than just pay for the insurance on a runabout. At least after a year they got 1 years NCB.

    confused

My 17 year old sons first car last year was a 1.1 pug 206 cost £2000 for the car. The insurance here in N.ireland was £2800.It dropped to £1900 this year,so I dont think your quotes are bad compared to here.but still far to dear, for anyone. Also no garage would take on a 17 or 18year old for free insurance here

Dont CONSIDER.... DO! I work in INsurance and it can give a 35% disco or 1 yrs NCB! for £135.... I also got the Pass plus myself 5 yrs ago and it helped me immensely. Like I said any one Who has just passed DO a pass plus. £135 for a yrs NCB is a bargain!
