    Default Speed camera Q

I was driving back home today coming south down the A19 at Northallerton and i never noticed 'until the last second' a white van with a i think a speed camera on the roof, sat on the bridge overhead. I was under the impression that if these sort of vans are used they have to still have speed camera sign's posted on the road. I'm not sure if it got me but knowing my luck it will have. I was doing about 80 at the time i seen it but i'm not at all sure how far away they detect/record your speed.
    Any idea's guys.

You should be safe at 80 anyway if it was a 70 zone, speedo will be over so probably won`t bother you ...

I was thinking that, sounds like a tax detector van.

Yep. If you were doing 80 on the speedo, you are only really doing about 77-78mph. Generally the rule is you are allowed 10% plus 3 mph, so you are allowed up to 80mph (although dont hold me to that lol ). So you were doing under the speed that their guns at likely to go off. Their guns may be set even higher.

It was most probably an ANPR van. Were there any police cars further down the road?

I did notice a cop car a bit further on but he was on the opposite side of the road parked up. Not sure if it was at a point were he could cut across the road to go south aswell.

Sounds like an ANPR(Automatic Number Plate Recognition) camera van to me.
I do not know of any speed camera vans that have cams mounted on the roof.
ANPR op'd by Police and DVLA.
I wouldnt be worried at 80 either!

Cheers guy's. You have settled my mind a bit now. Looks like it was a numberplate recognition van. Saved me a fine and 3 points.
