    Vehicle : Vectra

    Trim : SRi

    Engine : Z20NET

    Year : 04

Default Think it may be time for a change

Well with the price of fuel going up by the week and my car not eactly being the most "Ecnomical" ever I think I'm going to start looking for another car of the Diesel variety, still a Vectra of course

I do quite a few miles for work now and it although the car is great fun and I love it to bits! I can't justify the fuel expenses any longer, I get my fuel paid for @ 40p per mile, fiddle the odd mile here and there and I usually have a few pounds left over for myself, but with the fuel prices rising and the V6 being as thirsty as it is it's costing more and more to fill the tank the factors that are currently swaying me are:

    The fuel economy
    Lower tax bracket
    Lower insurance group
    The 1.9 CDTi's tuneablility

I love the Vectra and can't think of any other cars in the same range that I'd be as happy driving, touch wood my Vectra has never let me down and for these reasons I'm going to look for a Diesel Vectra

So top of the list is a 1.9CDTi 150, my dad has a one in Exclusiv trim which I drive on occassion and absolutely love!

TBH I may find it hard stepping down to something without leather interior as both my Astra G and my Vectra have had and the leather seats are a real luxury on these cold days! The Vectra, being an Elite V6, is fully equipped with every toy I could ever want, I'll more than likely b PX'ing my Vec in near standard trim as I don't think I'll get anywhere near what I want for mine with all the extras on, I'll be taking my Wheels, suspension and door pins to transfer onto the new model, obviously my grille will be of no use if I go for a facelift (which I quite fancy actually!)

I've had a call off one of my Local Evans Halshaw Vauxhall dealership who have informed me of a special promotion they're having on new and used cars over the weekend, the saleman "booked me in" for 2:00pm on saturday to look round and discuss a possible deal, I also nipped in to another local EH Vaux dealer late last night for a snoop, a couple of nice Vec's caught my eye, a brand new Exclusiv in white for £9999 OTR and a used '54 plate pre-facelift SRi CDTi 120 with full leather for £7,999, I called up about the White Exclusiv this morning but it only has the 1.8 petrol engine, she said I could get a brand new one in white with a 150 CDTi for £11-12k

Obviously these are just initial findings and I hope to do alot of viewing and barterring over the weekend,

Anyones, thoughts/advice/opinions on this are greatly appreciated

Thats the exact same reason i went for a diesel. Even though diesel is a bit more expensive you should be using a lot less, although im yet to find out!!!!!!

I wouldn't get any car in white, the depreciation is bad enough, without losing 50% of potential future buyers.

You will miss the toys, I went from an Omega CDX to a Vectra B LS, and I felt like I'd been burgled, also the CDTi is a mixed bag, you get a good one or a bad one, where the one you have now is a reliable unit iirc, check out Auto Trader there are some CDTi Elites on there to be had for around 11k on 06-56 plates.

Well was at the stealers yesterday, looking at a 1.9 CDTi 150 SRi in Panacotta pearlescent, with 19" Snowflakes and a sunroof, 06 '56plate with 16,000 miles, was up for £12,299 they only offered me £3,150 P/X for mine though, was hoping for a bit more, they did however say they weren't fussed about the modifications, I.E I could take (and sell) My 19"s grille, irmscher pins, gearknob and handbrake, + my bilstein suspension to fit to my new car and basically hand it to them as a standard car which would help against the initial expense,

I've checked parkers though and they reckon that my car (in standard trim) with average miles (mine only has 43k) as a P/X is worth £4,225

Also, I've just been offered £6k for my car as it is (I had it advertised for £7,450) http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/263738.htm

But where as I've advertised it with the Suspension (that I recently paid over £500 for) and they new grooved brakes I'd rather take at least those two items with me for my new car!

    Aargh, what do I do!?

Take the six for yours, then you're in a much stronger position when you're buying without a p/x.

Without a p/x you can virtually name your price (being sensible of course)

I'll echo that! Take the 6K and go in with the cash. Panacotta is a lovely colour too imo
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I bought an Exclusiv brand new in 2006 (150 cdti) and TBH I now regret buying it because of the poverty spec.

I should have bought an SRi or Design. Started using a GM card so that I can get some money off the next one.

I have to say, after seeing your car today on the A1 (about half three ish next to the metro centre) you are gonna miss it, it looks stunning on the road.

DON'T buy a lower trim level, you will miss the toys like mad. The SRi doesn't even have auto wipers anymore!

If you have to buy another, remember, you can REALLY battle to price at the mo on Vectras in dealers, they are desperate this time of year. Your part ex may be crap, just get one hell of a deal on the new one....

    3.1 k PX

Sell it for 6k and then go and offer them 7k for the pannacotta one, when he says "don't be silly sir" say to him, well you started it mate.

I suspect the low screen on the new one is a carrot, so you take 3k for yours thinking you got a 10k new vectra, but in fact they are really juggling figures to sell you a 12.5k car.

You must go and have a laugh with them though, they hate it when you use their own tactics against them.
