Interested in this Matt, just one thing I'm not sure about. With my Irmscher suspension it says it's not suitable for towing. Is that Irmscher playing safe, or does being lowered 30mm make the car unsuitable for towing due to the increased chance of bottoming out?

duncan if you are worried about the car bottoming out you may be able to fit some spring assisitors dead easy to fit and to remove, you must be planning on towing something quite heavy to think abount bottoming out like possibly a caravan, if the caravan doesnt sit straight you could always use a drop plate to level (not sure if its swan neck if so the drop plate might not be available.

I have this on my Signum and the manual for the Towbar(Westfalia) doesnt list any warnings for the car being lowered.

I think it is a swan neck. In terms of towing, it's unlikely to be a caravan that I'm towing - given that I don't own one or know anyone who does! lol It's just something I've always fancied having to be able to stick on a trailer etc. if ever the need occurred. Have also contemplated getting a trailer tent at some point so that's likely to be the heaviest thing I'm liable to tow.

The fact that it'll be an occasional thing is the attraction of the detachable one - don't want a permanent one to spoil the look of the back end! (No comments about it already being spoiled by having a big bum!! )

It's something that Irmscher list with the suspension i.e. not suitable for towing. There's no further details on that as to exactly what they mean.

Could be to do with the Ball being too low?

It does mention in the manual check the dimensions etc. This must be to do with the angle of tow and the safety of the same.

i know the car is lowered but it would have to seriously low to bottom out, dont think any like a trailer tent would cause that, maybe going over some of the quite high speed bumps may cause it

Well I've looked at the Irmscher web site, the PDF brochure on there and the original printed version I've got filed away here - and I'm bu**ered if I can see any mention about towing!!

I could have sworn I had seen it somewhere - maybe I was dreaming it!! lol

Well if there's no reason why I can't tow with my car, then consider it sold Matt.

    Duncan,

Vauxhall state that Signum should not tow with Sports Suspension together with 19" wheels....... Whoops

I think it is Irmscher playing safe, Irmscher also states wheel arch mods are required for fitting 19 and 20" wheels.

You will be fine, as you say your not looking to tow anything major.

Give us a bell Duncan and we can sort it out. Loks like I had better get out in the cold and take it off now then!!!

It seems to be Vx playing safe after finding out some more info today. I knew I wasn't going mad when I thought I'd seen something somewhere about not towing with the Irmscher suspension. I was in at the dealers getting some parts and I asked about it there and, as I mentioned, there was nothing in any of the Irmscher documentation. However, in the Vx documentation i.e the accessories catalogues, under the Irmscher suspension is where it has this note about not towing.

I rang Irmscher to see what the deal was and they'd never heard of it, and certainly hadn't heard of any issues, so that clarified that. Given that, I'll definitely have this. Not sure when I can collect though! How soon do you want it out the way?

I'm assuming the electrics on the towbar just plug into that large plug that's in the spare wheel bay area? Do I need to get it Tech 2'd, or not? I couldn't remember.

    D
