    Default Hydraulic Bonnet Lifters?

Just bought a new vectra, so its an 57 C, really pleased with it
    BUT
Because I'm in a I can't get the bonnet open and hooked up aargh.
Didn't think to check when I bought it. My old vectra had hydraulic dampers which lifted it for me.
Does anyone know where I can get hydraulic lifters for my car? I at least need to be able to get to the washer bottle and stuff. All the ads I've seen only mention vectra B's.
    Thanks for any help
    Dom

I know these are fitted to the pre facelift model so might be worth a trip to the stealers to see if they fit. The bonnet on the facelift is much lighter than the pre face version so dont know if this is the reason they didn't fit them. Or it could just be another vx cutback.

Thats another thing I have noticed, its ok if you tall as the bonnet seems to be pointing to the sky when hooked on. If you are short or disabled it would be a nightmare to locate the bar into the bonnet, The Lifters were better!

Funny you should say that. I did almost the same thing myself. When I asked the local garage why the lifter is no longer fitted, the excuse they gave me was the bonnet isn't as strong as the pre facelift (as it's basically a flat panel instead of having a bend in it for the incorperated radiator grille) and there's every chance the bonnet could bend when trying to close as it's weaker.

All that I know is when I've gone to shut the bonnet and forgot there isn't a lifter anymore, the bonnet stay bar bent before the bonnet did!

Unfortunately its not an excuse... the bonnets on the pre facelift were steel... facelift bonnets are aluminium and are a lot less strong... apparently they twist and buckle with the gas struts, so a normal strut is fitted instead.

The bonnet on my 53 reg (registered Jan 2004) was aluminium. I can remember seeing a write up somewhere that along with some of the suspension components, the bonnets were also aluminium on all the Vectra-C's; both pre-facelift and current.

IIRC the pre-facelift bonnets are steel framed with alloy skin and the facelift bonnets are all alloy and not strong enough to take the pressure from the hydraulic struts.
I think VXL test fitted them but the bonnets were getting warped so stuck with the old type of strut.

I figured it. I'll keep a block of wood in the boot, slide it under the front when I release the catch to stop it shutting/crushing fingers, move to the side, lift the lid and lock the stay bar. et voila
Thanks for all the replies. I won't bend me bonnet.
