    Cool Vectra SRI road noise

    Hi everyone

I have recently purchased a Vectra SRi registered Oct 2005.
All ok other than noticable road noise. Is this to be expected?
Previously had a 2001 Astra SXi which was quieter!

    Any comments would be appreciated.

Best way to reduce noise is to fit dynamat onto the inner wings/floorpan. I agree that the noise is too much though. Saying that, the 16" steels on mine are fairly quiet in comparison to others I have been in.

The road noise is due to two factors

Firstly is the complete lack (sory , reduction) in noise insulation since the Vectra B
Take the A pillar as an example, as in the Vectra B there was sound insulating material clearly visible

Secondly are the low profile tyres
Due to the increased width there is an increase in noise of about 5% compared to the tyres that were on the Vectra B

Would that explain my road noise too? When I was on 215/50/17 NCT-5's at the back, the car whispered along. It was lovely. Now I've got 235/35/19 Toyo's, I get terrible noise over about 40mph.

I think the wear on the tyres contributes too. My last set of Mitchellin Primacy's got really noisey when they were due to be changed, I thought it was a wheel bearing LMAO

Now the AVON's i'm on seem to be getting a bit noisey on the front after 12k miles but there is quite a lot of tread left.
