Default Dilemma - What do I do.....

    Right,

    This is the situation..

My car is currently getting to a point where i am not going to want to drive it every day... Once the Coil Over's are on(In the next 7 days hopefully), I have the exhaust to sort, and the Re-trim to get done, then it will be finished i hope!

Now... I drive it to work, leave it parked in a grotty little transport yard all day,, getting covered in sh!t and cr*p, then drive it home, thats about it Monday to Friday.. Weekends i do about 300 miles in it just floating about seeing people, and it gets left in some quite dodgy places at times..

I am looking to get a house in the New Year, and i am considering getting a house with a Garage/Driveway, and parking the Vectra up and buying myself a little van to smoke around in day to day, and just using the Vectra for meets/shows/occasions...

Is this a bit overkill do you think, after all, "Its only a diesel Vectra" as i have been told quite a lot recently!

No, its quite a sensible thought. You'd only need something to get to work in and possibly use to pop to town in so it would save any potential damage to the vec

Can't see the problem with that. Given your working week and locations, a little van sounds like perfect sense to me.

Some would say it's overkill as it's only a car, but I would say if you can then there is no reason you shouldn't. I would if I could afford it as it will keep the vectra in good nick and everytime you take her out it will bring a smile to your face I'm sure.

Dad did the same - he bought an ex-Post Office Escort van. He got 600 miles to a tank of diesel out of it. Only did 65 flat out thanks to the stunning 1.8 non-turbo, but it did his job. I used it often for moving stuff as well.

He used it for 3 years, spent next to nothing on it, and sold it for more than he got it for.

This is one of the things i am thinking of, but then again, will i enjoy it more if i drive it less.

My other way of thinking, An old Escort Van will go forever on a tank of fuel! Realiable, easy to fix if they go wrong, and you can pick them up for reasonable money too!

I bought a £500 micra last year. Spend £200 on a bit of welding and a MOT.

Reason wanted to keep 50miles a day commute off the Vectra and the wife said she wanting to learn to drive.

Now the micra has passed its second MOT and the wife has no interest in driving.

Will I sell "NO" . Best thing I ever bought................

Ben, my views... If you drive it everyday you'll always be worried about where you part it, wear and tear on it etc etc, which is exactly why i bought a 'B' for work... I wouldnt want a 'C' for work because it wouldnt be too different getting out of one into the other.

When I jump in the C at weekends the seats feel firmer, engine much smoother and just a whole lot of fun to drive. I appreciate the car a whole lot more. I deffo feel i made the right choice and not too particulary worried if i have the odd knock or where i park at work.
