    Default Temperature Gauge Help

I noticed a while ago that my temp gauge would drop to about 75 when driving at speed but when I slowed down it would return to around 90. Took it to the dealer and they said they could not find anything wrong with it but if it continued to let them know. Today it will not move at all when driving and the only way I can get it to move is to leave the stationary with the engine running then it goes up to around 90, as soon as I start to drive the temp drops to 70.

Anybody got any idea why this is happening??

What is the normal running temp for a 1.8 petrol? mine sits in the middle of the guage at 90, and seems to heat up to 90 very quickly from cold? is this normal? only had it just over a week so dont know much about the car.

Mines a 1.8 petrol too and used to sit in the middle at about 90, so I guess thats normal operating temp.

Sounds okay I'd say. My 2.0T sits solidly at 85 most of the time - bit more if it's a hot day or it's been for a good drive.

Being a smaller engine, the 1.8, it should warm up pretty quickly.

Driving at motorway speeds wouldn't make the temp drop below 70 though would it.

I've noticed on my 1.8 that the gauge sometimes doesn't move at all.

    Very strange.

Same here I can drive 15 miles or more and it won't move.

Cheers Andy, will do as it's really bugging me now.

Off to Scotland for Crimbo and don't want it freezing on the inside of the windows!
