Default Retro fitting Xenon headlights - what's needed?

I know it's been touched upon on in other threads, but I've never seen a definitive list.

Assuming you could get the parts at a reasonable price - scrappies etc., what do you need to retro fit non-AFL Xenon headlights to a pre-facelift Signum.

So far I reckon the following......

Headlamp assemblies obviously! - LH & RH
    Ignition modules x 2
Headlamp control unit - one? or two?
    Different headlamp switch.
Headlamp levelling sensor - front axle. The rear one looks like it's only used on automatics?
    Different headlamp wiring harness.
A fair bit of Tech 2ing! lol

    Anything I've missed?

Not 100% sure D, but i'm sure I saw a thread where somebody had installed the proper VX xenons and wired
in the manual adjuster control on the existing headlight switch.

If you do go down the self levelling route, you might need a new steering rack for the levelling sensors aswell.

Like I say, not 100% on this though.

Did they? - doesn't ring a bell. You're not thinking of somebody who wired in fog lights to that switch are you?

Wouldn't have thought so. It's just normal Xenons, not the AFL directional ones.

I did this some time ago. The single xenons (not afl) can be retro fitted.

It is not possible to fit the auto-levelling as you need to replace the engine bay wiring harness and main body harness. In the case of the engine bay harness you are adding an extra Can-Bus module which is probably not a good idea anyway.

    To fit the xenons you need;

    standard xenon units
standard levelling motors (not auto-levelling ones)
    Transform packs (one under headlight)
Starters (go on back of bulb inside the headlight)
    headlight rear covers

You then alter the wiring for the leveling motor inside the headlight to use the non-auto types. To do this cut plug-off and solder to motor or add new plug. Note. brown and red wires need to be reversed relative to non-xenon headlight wiring.

Finally add GreenGrowler's Xenon wiring mods and ideally an extra earth return.

Best bet is to get the complete units off ebay.

I also checked for the New shape vectras (I'm getting one shortly), you can still get the single xenons in the opels so I suspect they can be added to UK car's in the same way. The headlights have LHD and RHD internal settings so you could get LHD ones and change the internal setting for RHD.

It was this thread, but I thought he'd actually got them wired up to the adjusters.

    Anyway, i'll get my coat.

Pricey - Cheers for the link to DV's thread.

dieselvec - do you not need self-levelling to comply with retro-fitting halogens? The reason I was thinking of going down this route, rather than the MID conversion kit, was to keep it all 'legit'.

When you say GG's wiring mods - aer you meaning you still have to faff around with capacitors etc. to stop flickering/bulb warning messages?

yep you've still got to get round the bulb check issues and flickering issues.

Main reason for getting the real vauxhall units (ebay in my case) is that you get the correct lens units. Xenons lens are different. Projector type instead of reflexor set up from memory.

The auto levelling was too difficult to retro fit and there is a risk of damaging other Can-bus modules by adding a new one. I asked vauxhall a few questions and reponses convinced me not to even start dopwn that root.

I cut a small hole in rear of the headlight so that all the wiring is attached to the back and there are not changes to the car's wiring harness, so that I can put the old lights back later.

They are a great upgrade but if you want the auto-levelling you'd be better buying a car with them a bit like the sat-nav upgrades.

Power washer install is also required for the factory fit spec which adds more effort if you've not done that mod already.

level sensors are about £30 each
    control unit is ~£130
wiring harness were several hundred from memory

Halogens are standard lights as fitted to all cars. I think you're confusing halogens with HIDs, Duncan.

Halogens have been fitted to all cars since the 70's...
