Default £57 for GM 5w 30 Synthetic Oil!

I went to my local stealers brought a oil filter and sump washer £10 but when adding the 6 litres of synthetic oil came to £67 (£57 for OIL)!!!

    Surely that's gotta' be wrong???

My car is overdue for it's very very 1st service from Brand New and i've decided to use the local family garage (VAT registered etc...) but can i not use Castrol Magnatec?

It's not......when I had my first service done, the independent garage told me that they paid £35 for the GM oil at trade price. I would say £57 retail is prob about right.

    Hi Mate,

    What a rip off!

Go to your local place and look for the AC DELCO brand 5W 30 FULLY SYNTH LONG LIFE.
This is actually the GM oil and is what I have used to great effect in my siggy 1.9cdti as an intermediate change as I dont believe a diesel, even a new age diesel should last 20k miles between oil changes its plain daft!
oh by the way it's £16 for 5 litres at my local.
    and thats in sheffield.

    Halfords :
    All 4 litres
Castrol Edge 0w40 £38 or equivalent to £57 for 6 litres
Castrol Edge 0w30 £43 or equivalent to £64.50 for 6 litres
    Castrol Edge 5w30 £43

    Price looks right to me
However, I have noticed on servicing invoices that dealerships charge by the litre rather than the pack!
It can be cheaper to supply your own oil, although for most cars that does mean buying two, but then they should give you back one that is part-used
