Question Just heard something fall off...

Coming home late on Thursday night, I heard what sounded like a couple of small bits bouncing off under the car going round a left hand bend.

Today, I heard a more metallic bouncing noise from under my car about 15 miles from home at gentle speed on a straight smooth road (just after a left hand bend).

I have just had a look under the car, and was hoping it was off the exhaust system but that all looks complete. However I did notice the following: -

There is a plastic tray under the engine bay running back from the front valance to the chassis. Part of the rear lip is damaged, either from a hit or where something has snapped off. Can anyone tell me what I should see there on a GSI? There are a couple of parts of the engine just back from there that look a bit cleaner than the surrounding area, but that just might be different materials or my imagination...

I also noticed that there is a black undertray fixed to the chassis just inboard from the driver's side front wheel, but there is not one on the passenger side, is that normal?

I will probably go back later and have a look at the road where I heard the tinkle to see if there are any clues there but any thoughts now would be appreciated.

    Ta

i believe that only the diesels have the plastic thing your on about under the engine.

mine recently fell off after a pheasant incident.

quite expensive to buy apparantly, there was one on ebay a few days ago tho.

Have you checked your front springs? Possibly one has cracked.
