    Default Safety "Slush Fund" cameras

And there's me thinking its all about safety, click here to be sickened.

They haven't come out yet and said cameras pay for road works but, if you had seen the recent M60 road works around Ashton, there was more cameras around than an annual photographic society meeeting.

To be honest I think the average speed cameras at roadworks on the motorway are a damned good idea. They work at protecting the workers!

I don't think anyone was disputing that Alex, and neither was the article. The article was all about an undercover report to do with selling the cameras and comments made by the chief executive of Tele-Traffic (suppliers of cameras) - himself previously the police Chief Superintendent in charge of speed cameras in Warwickshire.

Well isn't this confirming what we all knew.... did anybody actually think it was about safety and nothing else?

If it really was all about road safety your fine would be made payable to a charity of your choice, because the government obviously can't be trusted to put in back into the roads.

Whilst on speed cameras, in todays express the company who make the SPECS system admitted they don't work if you exit in a different lane to the one you entered the roadworks in! (could be a way making more money ).

REALLY!?!? I don't buy it! Surely they are license recognition cameras and not lane dedicated. I think it's a ploy!

Even if that is the case it would be dangerous to admit it, becuase I can now see a lot of people changing lanes un-necessarily within roadworks

I know mate, I read it, but thanks for reiterating it . To be honest a seller of speed cameras will say anything to a potential buyer to get his sale; especially from an overseas buyer, so I'm taking the article with a pinch of salt. I'm not saying that all revenue from these cameras gets plowed back into the roads, because I'm sure it doesn't, but I don't believe everything I read in news articles. You only have to look at the recent comments made by the head of the British Army about Iraq and Afghanistan being took out of context by the press.
