In January this year my Dad was driving home from work in his nearly new Astra when he was involved in an accident with a "young person" in a Corsa. He was slowing down for a bend about a mile from home and the Corsa driver decided he liked my dad's side of the road better than his own. He was travelling far too fast and took the side of my dad's Astra out, writing it off
He was paid out and went and bought a nearly new Peugeot 207 Sport. Nice car in gleaming red, looked the business
Tonight, after they (mum and dad) had been shopping, and virtually at the same spot as he had his earlier accident (100 yards or so) a "nice young man" in a white van decided he wanted to pay more attention to his Sat Nav and forgot to stop at the end of the slip road off the by-pass. He hit the passenger side of the 207 so hard it threw the car right across the road
Luckily (if it makes sense) he hit the front wing just ahead of the front door and has completely twisted the car. All the air bags went off, seat belt pre-tensioners etc etc but the passenger cell did its job. The police arrived and took statements, the ambulance took mum & dad off to hospital to be checked out. He admitted to the police he was sorting out his Sat Nav so may be charged with "Driving without due care etc....."
The car will be a write off but thankfully, apart from a few bruises, they are both alive and well.
I've told him he needs to take a different route home I can laugh about it now but it just goes to show no matter how well you think you know the roads, there is always and idiot just around the corner that doesn't
Take care out there folks.
