Hi All,

no.
You only have to match tyre sizes per axle.
The tyre place is wrong, according to MOT, construction and use, homologation, road traffic act etc etc
you will be dropping the diameter of the wheel with the new tyres. I am sure this has an effect on the speedo and speed in general
?? don't understand.
The wheel size are the same at 17".
The rolling circumference with change by about 2% = = OK
As long as the tyres on the same axle are the same size, that is OK for the law.
Speedo out by 2% is not worth worrying about, tyre tread change can be nearly this as the tyre wears out.
Agree with Ste.
I did exactly this, put 2 new 225/45 on rear & put old 215/50s on the front until worn out. Some cars come with wider tyres on the rear as standard, so the fitter is talking out of his AR55
If the tyre place is giving that advice, walk away and find one that knows what they're talking about.
most tyre centres will try to sell 4 new tyres more profit in the till
