    Default Emissions warning

    I have a 52 plate 1.8sxi petrol.

At its last MOT the garage chap told me that it had almost failed on emissions and that he had had to repeat the test 3 times to get the level just below the threshold.

That was about 6 months ago.

Recently the emissions warning light has displayed occasionally. It tends to display for a few days or so at a time then disappear again for week or so.

I serviced it (air filter very dirty) and never saw the light for a few weeks, but has come back to haunt me.

Any ideas? I really don't want to go to a dealer due to stories familiar to most people who have ever had the misfortune to have to use one!

Could be the air mass meter or oxy sensor I would have thought. Probably worth getting the codes read at a dealer to make sure
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Could it be the cat?

The light came on again tonight and around the same time, there was a slight smell of rotten eggs, which I am led to believe normally indicates the cat is kapoot.

The smell wasn't overpowering, but it was definitely there.

Is there any way I can check the cat to see for certain whether or not it's gone?
