Think it's a t40 - best get a couple cause these can be sods to get out and the bits can snap or round the plug

I have another problem with this car - other than the loose nut behind the steering wheel (it's OK my wife doesn't read this kind of site)

The engine makes a rattling sound on accellerating - worse when in gear, but does it out of gear as well - not so much a throaty roar as a tickly cough. I checked this with the dealership and was told that all Vectras made that noise - it has got worse recently.

    Any idea what it is?

My 1.8 (53 plate) has a metal sump plug with an o-ring seal, not plastic.
The plug can be tight though as mentioned.

to help with the removal of the sump plug make sure the engine is hot, it cos its all aluminium, even if you crack it off when hot then let it cool to remove the oil. make sure you use fully synthetic 5w30 oil.

the dealer fobbing you off.... try another dealer, or drop it into a local independant for their opinion..then take the findings back to VX..
