    Default modifying under warranty

just wondered what happens with your warranty if you modify the car,

next year i'm looking at lowering it, new exhaust and possibly if funds allow chipping it,

how would all these affect my VX warranty and would i be able to get a warranty from another company once the vx one runs out

    thanks in advance

The warranty should only be affected for the parts you change. i.e exhaust should only affest the exhaust but a remap would/probably invalidate the engine as its upped the performance. Some dealers are very understanding where others are not.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Basically Vx can only refuse a warranty claim if your mod has directly attributed towards whatever the claim is relating to.

i.e. if you lowered the car and your engine had a problem, they couldn't refuse the claim for the engine, but they may well refuse any suspension claim.

Remapping - again only if it directly contributed to the fault. A remap isn't going to void the whole engine warranty. Obviously a removable remap is a nice option as the car can be put back to standard when it goes into a dealer.

Other warranty companies have their own conditions. Net Q, for example - all they state in relation to mods is that they don't cover anything (non-standard) added to the car after it's been delivered from new. Again with them they will only refuse a claim if they reckon a mod has directly caused the problem in question.

It all depends on the dealers. Mine know I have the remap and have been cool about putting through Vx claims, as it wasn't related to the remap. Others, I've heard, have tried to tell people their whole electrical part of the warranty is void due to them fitting a different head unit!!!
