Default Failed MOT - Be Warned!

I've just had my MOT done today.

    And failed

    The reason??

Hid kit..... NO the HID Kit passed with flying colours. Better beam concentration than standard the tester said.

The reason it failed was because of my registration number...

From recently all registration plates MUST have:
    1) a BSAU 145d marking in bottom right corner
    2) name, or postcode of supplying outlet.

This is the tiny writing at the bottom of your registration plate.
Mine doesn't have this, therefore it failed.

Just letting you guys know so you don't fail for something minor like this too.

I've got an 'illegal' set on normally - different writing type to road legal, but I keep a spare set in the boot incase I get pulled over (never have) I put my spare set on for the test, which was apparantly road legal, but failed as it didn't have the tiny text at the bottom.

The MOT tester said he know it's pathetic but he has to do it. Now I've got to get some cheap new ones locally, and he'll sign it off for free - NO recharge.

    .....
    Just remembered
Oh yes, the tester said that you can only have a logo on ONE side of the plate, and it can only be a country logo. NO customs or football ones.

yep..new ruling...no suppliers postcode on the bottom of the number plate means no MOT test and also gives the police another reason to be able to stop you...

    What reg is your car?

I thought that only applied to cars registered after a certain age?

The reason I say that is my soon to be father-in-law's car (53 reg) recently went through the MOT and his plates have a BS number but no postcode on them.

This has been metioned quite a few times on here about plates. They need to made at a legal outlet and they stamp their ID mark on the bottom. Just nip to Hallfords with the logbook and they will make a set up for you.

    Found this:

    From 1st October 2007

"Plates fitted to models registered after 1 September 2001 that arent embossed with the name and postcode of the supplier and BS AU145d British Standard symbol will result in an automatic failure. The move is designed to make it easy for testers to spot non-road-legal show plates, as these dont have a BS symbol."

Thinking about it the father-in-law's was probably MOT'd back in September...

    Mine is a 52 plate.

they didn't say whether it applied to a certain age of car as he was just explaining why mine failed. Not sure if older car can get away with it.
