    Default Dualmass replaced...

I have had a seemingly small problem with my car for 2 months now. It was like a missfire, vibration from the engine.

After doing loads of things to fix it with no results. I finally went for it and replaced the dualmass flywheel.

Car now runs a dream again. Cost me £330 from Vaux and that included a 25% discount on it.

    My car is a 52 plate 2.2 SRi Z22SE with 56k miles.

    Happy at last.

    Good job mate!

I've got a very similar car to you (engine and year), just slightly less miles, how long have you had that problem? I keep hearing of people having problems with the dual mass flywheel, but more-so on the diesels? (don't hurt me diesel owners).

I had the problem for a few months, it got worse in that time too.

I didnt driven the car much at all in that time though as it just felt wrong!

They just wear and break down inside, the springs and tensioners die. The fly then becomes loose.

The new one was tight, the masses could be moved only a few mm each way, whereas the old one was OK one way, but the other way went a good few cm and knocked! Just wear and tear!

A good way to describe a dualmass fly, is like a normal flywheel with another one stuck to it, but with no teeth. Between them are springs and tensioners that allow them to rotate slightly. This takes up vibration whilst changing gear, etc. Thus giving a smoother ride.

I have just had a thought, why can these not be 'traded in' like some other parts to be refurbed?

I have had enough of my 07 Vectra and I am going after a Skoda Octavia.

But get this, the dealer will not touch it with a barge pole and even if he did part chop it, he would sell on to the trade.

The reputations must be well known.
