    Default Oil pump failure????

1.9 CTDI 2004 50000mls, just out of warranty! Just had a major engine repair, oil light came on, apparently oil pump drive gear was the fault. After 3 weeks, 540 pounds labour (no description) the bill came to a grand. Any know of this fault? A friend Former mechanic like myself has heard of this problem before, but nobody on this site appears to have experienced issue, unless I haven't read all the issues for Engine!

Anybody had this fault please advise, I would like Vauxhall to contribute to this failure as I believe a car with just 50k should not suffer this type of major failure.

    Cheers

Get them to put towards this and dont let it rest either. You should get 90% towards it at the least. Has the car had full vx servicing? If it has you have a much better chance getting the full amount.

Think you may get more answers if your thread title has more relevant wording, instead of a name - same with your other thread.

The only time I can remember this being an issue was with the old 8v units found in the Cavalier/Astra ranges of the 80's era, the strainer used to block up and stop the oil from being pumped around.

Right, i've change it to something more appropriate, Putting a header like that just confuses people and they won't even bother looking at the thread.

Surely if the car has just come back from a major engine repair, then you have a case for it to be repaired FOC.

Was the Oil pump touched in anyway at all during the Engine repair??

    Hi merkiito

Sorry if this appears in wrong place on thread, as you might guess haven't done this before so didnt understand 'title'.

I contacted Vauxhall, car was purchased as a Network Q car with less than 10k & under 12 months old. Contacted Vx and they only offered 20% discount on repair invoice. Was very dissappointed with response and repair due to 3 weeks to fix, no hire car, 540 pounds labour with no hours or desciption shown, oil pump gear shown as item replaced along with necessary gaskets for engine strip. No mention of crank grind or bearings, so any damage must have been minimal. This is 4th Vx owned, I feel let down.
