    Default Warranty

I paid £300 for a warranty when i bought the 2.2 direct and i'm going to phone and ask if i would be able to transfer it to the new car.

Would they be able to do that, seeing as i've paid for it?

They didn't offer me a warranty for the DTi

I doubt that you would be able to transfer the warranty tbh - you would have to organise a new one on the new car.

Is it worth taking one out?

Depends on the age/mileage of the car you're buying and if you would be prepared to take the risk of paying out of your own pocket should anything go wrong.

If you buy bit of a dud it could cost you! (I've had mine 16 months and its cost VX £2400 so far in warranty costs!)

It's an 04 2.2 DTi SRi with 50k. The warranty on my Vec has just started and it covers quite a bit. I'll give them a phone tomorrow and see what they can do.....

It's worth a try mate. 300 quid saved and a years peace of mind if they do for the price of a call. They may just transfer it you never know till you ask.

Just phoned about it and the guy was very rude and said it cannot be transferred or refunded!!! So i've wasted £300 on a warranty that covers next to nothing anyway!!!

Anyone recommend a good warranty i could take out on the new car?

If you have not made any claims on the policy then you can give notice to terminate
They should refund you the unused portion of the poilcy, less their admin charge
Check the policy for early termination clause

If you have made a claim, then sell the car with the warranty or leave the documents with the car so the next owner knows it has a warranty

The T&C state that the warranty cannot be cancelled, refunded or transferred It doesn't even cover the things that can go wrong with the car anyway!!

Warranties seem to be a quick way of making money these says. Every retailer of any product that is servicable (and not is some cases) try and force a warranty on you. Many of them aren't worth the paper they are written on as they only cover you for the thing you are already covered for under common law.

All they are doing is preying on our lack of technical and legal expertise.

As far as warranties for cars is concerned we could all do well to take the time to read them properly and not be rushed into signing on at the showroom.
