    Default Driveshaft removal?

I have to replace the dual mass and clutch on my car.

The driveshaft does not just slide out like other Vaux's Ive worked on, it seems attatched at the hub with the ABS sensor!

Anyway I have removed the short drive shaft along with the hub complete. I need to replace my springs too so that was fine.

My question is, on the long shaft, there is a short straight shaft that comes from the gearbox and goes to a fixed support before it gets all flexible. At the support, can you unbolt it and split the shaft? As it does not appear to be removed from the gearbox end easilly at all. Unlike the other which just pops out!

    Default

undo the support and then the OS lower balljoint, pull the hub out at the same time as prying out the OS driveshaft...it's a fixed 2 peice item, so you have to remove the lot..( easier that way too.. )

    Thanks Gsi.

Indeed the long driveshaft is easy to remove once the bracket is removed.

The driveshafts do come out of the hubs with a few good belts using a heavy hammer I also found out.

I had to lower the subframe completely to free the gearbox. And there is one bolt which is very hard to spot on the gearbox, right at the back near the top! I thought the gearbox was stuck to the engine until I found one bolt still in place.

I managed to replace my dualmass and get it all back together on my own, the only thing I damaged was the plastic bleed valve for the clucth on the gearbox, £4, so I was pleased really. As the subframe comes down the cat needs unbolting from the manifold and a few wires need unclipping and also the steering rack needs disconnecting, but its really not that massive a job, I just took it in stages.

I have to replace my coil springs as they both snapped a few inch off, so once its all back together I will know if its fixed the fault.

I did decide to use the old clutch as there was nothing wrong with it, the friction plate had plenty of wear left, the rivets were tight, the pressure plate was strong, etc, and although it may be good practice to change the clucth as its a fair old job, the clucth will not damage the fly in my opinion. The dual mass was damaged due to wear, nothing to do with the clutch.

All I need to know now is how much oil does my f23 gearbox require and what type???
