I used it recently when I was driving up to the NE (my local Tesco hasn't got it yet). As it was just the one tankful I couldn't give any sort of 'verdict' on it. Gave me same sort of MPG as the Esso SUL I normally use. Seems to be a bit cheaper then Optimax as well.

I ran with Tesco 99RON for three tank fulls and frankly I couldn't tell any difference in the performance, quality of its running or notice any improvement in my fuel consumption, so I've now gone back to standard unleaded but I buy at my local BP garage for the same price as Tesco (87.9p / litre).

I use Tesco 97 Ron Super (not got 99 in our stores yet) and get better economy than normal Tesco 95 Ron Premium, so hopefully when we get 99 it will be even better!!!

In the Subaru they tested, using Shell Optimax gave 16bhp and 20ft/lb more than supermarkets own brand. IIRC.

    Default Fuel Consumption

Hope this is the right thread:
I did 1000 (+ a couple) on 97 (or better) RON. Such as BP Ultimate, Esso Super SHell Opti, Texaco Super Plus - I got 35.5 miles to the gallon for the whole 1000.
Empty tank (almost) fill up with B0g standard 95 Ron - Esso Prim, or Texaco Prim or even Tesco - and did another 1000 + miles.
Now the 2 1000 mile groups were made up trips -standard from home-work-home (31 Miles each way - country lanes) and the Saturday to golf club and 2 or 3 motorway jobs for a cruise.
Result - 34.9 miles to the gallon for the 1000+ Miles.

So for me at least in a 2.2 petrol direct manual ELITE- there is little to be gained from paying the extra for the super RON versions.
    Hope this helps others.

Think it depends on whether your engine is tuned/remapped. My 2.0T has a BSR Stage 1 remap and whilst it will run well enough on 95ron, on 99ron it certainly is quicker and smoother, and my fuel economy is slightly better.

My local Tesco is 4p a litre more expensive than the Shell garage which is under a mile away.
