    Default swirl flaps

ok engine management came on today so popped to Thurlby and they tech2'd it and it came up with swirl flap stuck, so thye have ordered new one/s and will be fitted on Wednesday.

Said that its common for them to go on diesels but not petrols - mine 2.2 petrol.

Thing is I forgot to ask what a swirl flap is...any ideas??

If they mean Swirl Valve - it's a pneumatically guided swirl valves in the intake tract. Helping to bring the fuel-air mixture to a high swirl rate at low rpm. This leads to efficient combustion and high torque. At high rpm the swirl is reduced, improving performance.

Most owners of the CDTi's have had dealings with this valve or will have IMO.

no to be honest if the engine light hadnt come on I would not have known any different apart from rubbish economy, was hitting mid 30 now just hitting 30mpg...and with the stupid price of fuel not good!

I do have the usual 'flat' spots on acceleration but i seem to think that is pretty common with the 2.2

Done one before and If i remember correctly its a whole new inlet manifold, similar setup to the Z19DTH, except its a plastic manifold on the 2.2, is it a Z2.2YH or Z2.2SE, if its the YH then your flatspot could be down to your High pressure pump which is a fairly common fault.

if its an 07 then its a YH, you sometimes get the EML coming on when the flatspot occurs but not always, they should be able to check the actual values of the fuel pressure on a road test at the time the flatspot occurs. Make sure you mention it when you take it back for repairs. Enjoy the corsa
