Default 1.9 CDTi 150 timing belt change

Coming up to the 40k mile mark and was wondering should i change the timing belt at the next service?

The mileage has mostly been covered in heavy traffic so the engine would have had more wear than the mileage suggests

As above, if it was mine I'd be looking to change it soon.

thats the MAXIMUM service life....it's the subject of great debate, but from my own personal experience of having to repair too many failures from folks who think that it's fine to leave the belts indefinately, that I would be changing it far sooner if it was my car...

Yes i agree change it sooner than 100k but 40k is well under, surely about 60k-70k would be about right ?

My 40k stuck in traffic every day is probably the equivalent of 60k on the motorway in terms of wear an tear. The belt is still working away when the car is stationary...which in my case is a lot of the time

as in the other 'heated' thread.. it's all down to personal choice..if folks want to leave a mileage ( and age) critical component to the 100,000 mile interval then thats up to them..what folks don't always appreciate is that age comes into it as well.... belts are ideally changed around 3 to 4 years as well, so even if the car is low mileage it pays to have the belt changed every 3 years rather than slavishly follow the mileage recommendation...if it's a high usage car then leave it that long.. if it's only doing 6,000 a year i'd swap it at every 3 to 4 yrs tops...
