Why? Surely that's theft, and therefore illegal.

i agree with the above ! they cant just help them selves to other peoples property !

If it was my property (even if I was going to burn it) then I would be complaining in the strongest terms and even involving the police.
Theft is theft, is makes no distinction as to what the owner was going to do with it.
Been doing this by us for years now. Any unauthorised bonfire being built on public land is dismantled and taken away. Trying to stop people having fun causing death and injury to others by setting off fireworks and having unsupervised bonfires. Bunch of killjoys hey...

I can understand unauthorised bonfires on public ground being removed prior to lighting, but not on private property.
Maybe we don't have all the facts about this.
