Default Will I need to disconnect my battery

I have just bought a K & N panel air filter for my vectra c 1.8 sri vvti and I have been advised by a work mate that I should disconnect the battery when fitting the filter...When I re-connect the battery the ECU will register that their is more air flowing through the filter and re- programme itself......Is this correct or can i leave the battery connected ????

Some say yes, others don't bother m8. I fitted a K&N to both my Vectra and Signum and didn't bother. Fitted different varieties of tuning boxes too and never bothered then either

I derestricted my Airbox last week without disconnecting the battery and felt power delivery was a bit more sluggish afterwards.......then I disconnected and reconnected the battery and.......better than before I derestricted the Airbox. I was sceptical before, but not now.

I think ppl think they need to disconnect for safety reasons, thats not required, I personally would have it off so the ECU clears and it learns on a fresh new page.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the ECU clears when the battery is disconnected. I remember from my Vectra B days that a lot of people confused the modern ECUs with those in the old Cavaliers and Astras, which did reset the second power was lost.

By diconnecting the battery for 20-30mins,when thebattery is reconnected, the ECU learns the new setting instantly, therefore giving you the maximum benefit of the Modification immediately. By not disconnecting the battery, the car will have to learn the new mod's qualities(Right word??) and therefore the process will take 50-100miles maybe, and you will not notice the difference as much as you will be driving the car while its learning, and the increase in performance will be more graduale, rather than immediate.

If this makes sense to you, then you are a good man, coz its confusing me and i wrote it!!
