    Default Independents

The missus vehicle is currently off the road at an independent.

Bit annoying given that it is quite new but I wouldn't trust the place we bought it from.

On a fairly steep hill she lost all gears apart from third. Took it to the Independent who suggested that part of the mechanism had not been fitted at manufacture correctly.

Bit peeved about this so I'm gonna give.....

Halfords a right kicking in the morning.

I tell ya, there are specialist for a reason. How on earth Halfords get a reputation to be the place to buy from is beyond me.
I had been in the ICE trade for 10 years and the horror stories I hear about the local branch is unreal. When it came to buying my bike there was no way I'd go there! I do however enjoy going in there and have a laugh at their expense from their serious lack of knowledge of what they are talking about.
Oh, and to use my trade card.

My mate bought a bike from halfords and it fell apart while he was riding it, they gave it back to him so he went outside to try it out and it was still put together like ****, they blamed it on the cheapness of the bike..............yeah ****in right.

The bike is their own brand (Carrera) and has quite a high spec for the money. But having seen whats on offer at the local bike shop I'll be buying from them next time. You live and learn

This happened on a 16 mile off road ride at the exact furthest point from the start.

Probably just your rear mech needs adjusting, cables stretch after all. Tweak it at the shifter.

Surpised your local IBD didn't offer to fix it, mine would have...

As for the part missing at manufacture...maybe he doesn't realise SRAM's mech's don't have cable adjusters!

Yeh, the rear derailleur mech appears undamaged, so should be just in need of adjustment. I always check correct operation of all gears especially if I've changed wheels or rear block. Halfords are not noted for their assembly skills or safety checks - bit like Network Q you might say.

Halfords Carrera bikes are OK, but the frames tend to be on the heavy side compared with more expensive/independent ones.
