Michelin tyres

I have just had to have fitted a new tyre on my 07 plate 1.8vvt due to 3 nails stuck in it!.
I opted for a Michelin Pilot Premacy tyre rather than the noisy Bridgestone it replaces.The noise inside the car has been reduced quite a lot and i am now tempted to replace the other 3 with Michelins.Trouble is the cost of them and i don't really want to shell out for something thats just annoying.On the other hand one of my main gripes with the car is tyre noise.What do you guys think? (I could always sprinkle nails around the tyres and then i'll HAVE to replace them.....just kidding).

What do you lot think of the Michelin Pilot Premacys?

You shouldn't mix two types of tyres on one axle, so you ought to get one more Michelin, put them both on the rear, and put the Bridgestones on the front to wear them out as swiftly as possible.

Why on earth not? it makes no difference as long as the same size are on the same axle its perfectly ok. The tyres on everyday use will perform exactly the same. Most drivers would never notice the difference. Having to have the exact same tyre on each corner is a complete misnomer.

That used to be the case with radial and cross ply tyres, now it really does'nt matter, more a personal thing I think

Ideally you'd have the exact same tyres on an axle, one make might have slightly more grip than the other. For normal driving that shouldn't be a problem at all, but who knows.
It looks much better to have the same make though

Have never heard a bad word said about Michelin Pilot tyres - apart from their price!

you could get a slight tyre pull due to different brands but not much as i have worked in the tyre trade for 13 years. what size have you got as i can get tyres from a wholesaler can get a price for you on monday if you want fella

I wouldn't put different tyres on the same axle.

It depends on how fast you drive, and how big puddles you drive thru. Personally, I like knowing that my car will handle exactly the same going round a right hand bend as a left hand bend

I know cars have moved on a bit since the early nineties but a friend of mine had two different types of tyre on the front wheels of a front wheel drive car and had to do an emergency stop in slightly damp conditions and one wheel locked and the other didn't (it was firestone vs pirelli) and ran in the back of a car ! so with only minor scuff on the front bumper we tried this on a quiet stretch of road and sure enough the firestone locked every time. so quick swop of the spare pirelli in place of the firestone, result much harder to lock the wheels and both locked together. If you look at the latest tyre tests done in auto express every brand of tyre has different cornering/braking/traction/aquaplaning/dry grip/wet grip levels so its your choice, much less of an issue on the back of a front wheel drive car.
myself i would at least buy one michelin to pair up and keep the bridgestone you take off as an emergency spare replacement or better still just buy a new steel wheel from vaux and have the new michelin fitted to that and put the bridgestone as your spare to replace the naff space saver!
