Thumbs up Another easy mod completed

Just done the airbox derestriction mod on my 2.0T. Easy peasy, thanks to the 'How 2' I found on a forum search. Where would we be without 'How 2's' ?

Didn't really notice any change in power, but the delivery is a lot smoother all through the rev range, and less 'surgey' than before. Car feels more 'planted' at very high speed, whereas originally after the remap it did feel 'lighter' on the move at illegal speeds. Hope you are getting what I mean.

Got a nice surprise on opening up the AirBox.

It had a K&N panel filter, reasonably clean, which of course I have retained. Maybe that didn't do any harm on my recent Rolling Road. Wondered what a TORX screw was, until I found I had 3 funny little screwbits one of which fitted the bill. So there is hope for technical numpties like me, after all.

Are K& N Panel filters re-usable or best simply replaced, and if so, how often in terms of miles/time? Thanks.

they have a million mile warranty or something like that. They can be cleaned and re-oiled. They do a kit for that. I'd check it every 20k or something like that
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

    Default An update

After derestricting the Airbox as described above, I began to feel that power delivery seemed a bit too 'laid back' than after the remap was done. So I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, reconnected it and wow.....it's playtime again....and now it's every bit as manic as before I derestricted the Airbox, but it seems a little more powerful and even smoother than before and more 'planted' on the road than after the remap was done. The exhaust also sounds a bit more tuneful. Confused but well pleased Seems a sin not to derestrict the Airbox
