    Default Vectra 1.9CDTI 150 Auto v 2.2Direct Auto

    Hi newbie here.

I'm looking to order a new (company) car and are looking at Vectra 1.9CDTI 150 or 2.2Direct, both auto. What are people's impressions of these - which goes best with the auto, which is the smoothest of the two, which is the quietest, which is likely to be quickest/best to drive on the move?

I haven't driven either of these yet, but wondered if anyone has driven both?

Once I've worked this bit out, I need to choose between either Elite or SRI XPII - its going to be an estate.

    Thanks

    Matt

I've had my 2.2 Direct Auto for 8 months and i love it. It's great at pulling away and i can have it up at 80 and it still wants to give you more. Gear changes are smooth even when i've got the foot down! I find the fuel consumption is quite high, but i'm never out the car so that's the reason i burn up as much!

I've never driven a diesel auto on a Vec so i can't comment on one.

I had the 2.2 sri in manual and swapped it for a auto 1.9cdti signum and would recommend the diesel if you drive on motorways alot.

I drive 30,000 a year and the petrol just doesnt have the cruising capabilites of the diesel.

we have had or currently have one of both.. the wife used to have the 2.2 auto, and my dad has the 150 CDTi auto..

economy wise the 150 wins hands down.. 45mpg combined any day of the week...however.. first and second gear turbo lag is a killer at junctions..unlike the manual where you can pick the revs up before pulling off, it crawls out at a snails pace, even with your foot planted, while the turbo spools up..the 2.2 being turboless pulls much stronger from idle and you'll only notice the difference once the car is up and running..

for out and out motorway work, i'd say the 150 ( both for power and ecomony).. for urban work forget it and get the 2.2 as the stop start will drive you mad....

and one small thing to remember.. in our personal experience, the 2.2 ( either direct or non direct) is a heck of a lot more reliable than the 150 CDTi which has been poor at best...the 2.2's have needed no more than servicing..the 150 has only the block and pistons left from the original engine yet has only covered 29,000 miles now..4 turbos' 2 DPF's inlet and exhaust manifolds EGR valves x2 etc etc...

TBH if its a company car and they pay the fuel, get the 2.2 elite auto! Its a very quiet and smooth engine, the 1.9, its a diesel and will always sound like one too

I'd go for the 2.2 myself, I saw a few nice 56-07 ones in Elite spec on Auto Trader for £10999, the diesel version is £13000, so save £2000 from the off, and 18p per gallon of fuel and not have all the hassles that the likes of Mark,Wilco etc have had, no £2k fuel pump or £1.5k turbo to go wrong either, speeds are about the same both hit 60 in around 9 seconds.

If it's any help I had a non direct 2.2 Omega, using it as a cab it on a 80% urban cycle would return 20-21 mpg, the direct is "supposed" to be better and in normal use I think you would see about 25 mpg from one, the CDTi auto I had as a loan car under these conditions would only return about 26 mpg, so thats about 30 mpg to you, so the diesel is going to be roughly 5 mpg better on average, but throw in initial purchase cost, reliability, cheaper fuel and less high cost parts and the 2.2 looks cooking to me.

    Thanks for the replies.

No not Mitie. The driving will be combination town/motorway 50/50.

It looks like it might be the 2.2 auto then. the lag pulling off would drive me mad with the diesel, plus it is quite a bit more list price + tax.

I havent ruled out other models/manual, but just trying to get the best combination/tax etc at the moment. The auto is just for a easy life, but there isnt a stack of choice with the autos plus the co/2 zooms up

I personally think the SRi Nav XPII Spec looks best value, but it still misses quite a lot of stuff the elite has, so Im trying to work that out as well.

Further to GSI 3.2's comments I have had quite the opposite.

My 2.2 had all its injectors replaced, ecu, fuel pump and the EGR valve.

However as yours is a company car it doesnt really matter.

The diesel may be slower on the start but when the turbo kicks in nothing is going to touch it for pure pull power especially on the motorway.
